1. The system of motorcycle control gives you that
essential aspect of safe riding - time to react.
2. Continuous assessment of information runs through
every phase of the system and your ride.
3. If you fail to consider information at every phase,
and especially before you change speed or direction, the system will not
work and you may put yourself at unnecessary risk.
4. Skilled riders anticipate in order making their plans
more effective - good planning depends on early observation and early
anticipation of risk.
5. Adjust your speed to how well you can see the
complexity of the situation and the distance it will take you to stop.
You must always be able to stop within the distance you can see to be
clear. "Only a Fool brakes this Rule".
6. The more you brake or accelerate, the less you will
be able to steer. This is commonly known as "Tyre Grip Trade Off".
7. If you start to skid - remove the cause, i.e. reduce
throttle and speed, ease off the breaks.
8. Remember that skidding must never be practiced on the
public road.
9. Give indication / signals when another road user will
benefit from it.
10. Do you trust the signals of other road users or do
you wait for some other confirmation of their intentions?
11. Never sacrifice a safe road position for any other
advantage.
12. One third of children involved in road accidents did
not look first, allow younger road users more time, be prepared to slow
down or stop if necessary.
13. Match your speed to the speed at which the corner
limit point moves away from you, providing you can stop within the
distance that you can see to be clear.
14. Remember that overtaking is your decision; you can
reconsider it at any point.
15. Do not move to a lane on your left to overtake.
Exceptions apply where there are dedicated lanes or there is standing
traffic on your right.
16. Always ride within your competence, at a speed which
is appropriate to the circumstances
17. Check your speedometer whenever you leave a motorway
or high speed road, especially at roundabouts.
18. Whatever the pressures to ride faster, you must
always ride within your own capabilities. No journey is so urgent to not
warrant your safe arrival.
19. Filtering is often talked about, it must be safe and slow, if not
practical, then do not do it.
Relevant motorcycle safety clothing must be worn,
including supplied day-glow jackets. These must be worn when riding.
The course is based on the requirements of the RoSPA (ROADAR)
and Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) and the Driving Standard
Agency Enhanced Rider Scheme syllabus. This also complies with the
current advice issued in the Highway Code.
You will be shown and taught a method of motorcycle
riding which is intended to increase your safety, awareness and
perception to various hazards, and also how to retain full control of
your motorcycle at all times.
It is expected and hoped that you will give this
course your fullest attention and effort in order to extract the full
benefits from it. You will find the course demanding, very rewarding and
ultimately enjoyable. You will be coached and encouraged by your
instructor to develop your own natural abilities and within you're own
comfort levels, you will not be expected to ride outside of your
comfort zone or undertake manoeuvres you have not been shown or
demonstrated.
The course is based upon a practical training
environment i.e. on road.
It is strongly recommended that all students avail
themselves of any pre study reading material recommended by us at the
time of booking the training. During the training you will have regular
debriefs; this is an essential means of assessing your riding standard,
development and progress.
We recommend publications such as
